The Cover Skin allows you to showcase one specific listing as a prominent “cover” element. This skin displays a single listing’s featured image as a large banner, with its title and other details overlaid or beneath it (depending on style). It’s perfect for highlighting a featured listing on a homepage or landing page. If you want to display multiple listings in a cover style, you can place multiple Cover shortcodes on the same page.

To use the Cover Skin, select Cover View when creating or editing a Listdom shortcode:

  1. Add a Shortcode: Go to Listdom > All Shortcodes and click Add Shortcode. Give it a title.
  2. Select Cover Skin: In the Skin selection, choose Cover View from the list of available skins (represented by an icon labeled “Cover View”).
  3. Configure Settings: Proceed to adjust the Style, Layout, and other options for the Cover Skin as described below.
  4. Save & Publish: Click Publish (or Update) to save the shortcode. Use the generated [listdom] shortcode (with its ID) on any page to display the cover listing.

When the Cover Skin is active, Listdom will only display the single listing you specify in the Layout settings. Unlike other skins, Cover does not show multiple listings or support built-in filtering/search on the front-end, since it’s focused on one listing.

Under the Style tab, you can choose a visual style variation for the cover and control which elements of the listing are shown on the cover card.

  • Style: Select one of the predefined style layouts for the Cover Skin. Options include Style 1, Style 2, Style 3, and Style 4. Each style arranges the listing’s image and information differently (for example, different text overlay positions or element visibility). Default: Style 1.

The following toggle options allow you to show or hide specific listing details on the cover. Availability of each option may depend on the chosen Style:

  • Location: Show or hide the listing’s location subtitle (e.g. city or area name). This option is available in Style 3 and Style 4. Default: On.
  • Address: Show or hide the listing’s full address on the cover. Available in Style 1 and Style 2. Default: On.
  • Read More Button: Toggle the Read More button which links to the full listing page. Available in Style 1 and Style 2. Default: On.
  • Labels: Show or hide any listing labels or badges (for example, a “Featured” label). Available in Style 3. Default: On.
  • Categories: Show or hide the listing’s category tags on the cover card. Available in Style 4. Default: On.
  • Share Icons: Toggle social share buttons (e.g. Facebook, Twitter icons) on the listing card, allowing users to share the listing. Available in Style 4. Default: On (if the Social Share component is enabled in Listdom’s settings).
  • Review Rates: Show or hide the star rating for the listing (the average rating from user reviews). Default: On. This option appears only if the reviews system is active.
  • Title: Show or hide the listing’s title on the cover. Default: On. If you turn this off, the listing title and any linked features (like claim status) will not be displayed.
  • Claim Status: Show or hide a claimed badge if the listing has been marked as claimed by its owner. Default: On. This option is only available when the Claim feature is active, and it is visible only when the Title is being displayed (and in Style 4, where the claim badge is part of the design).

The Cover Skin does not utilize a map, since it focuses on a single listing. There is no Map tab for this skin, and no map will be displayed for the cover listing. (Map integration is used in other skins like Half Map or Single Map.)

The Layout tab for Cover Skin contains settings related to which listing is shown and how clicking that listing behaves:

  • Listing: Select the specific listing to display in this cover. You can choose one listing from your site’s listings. If you have a large number of listings, the field will provide a search-as-you-type box to find the listing by title. If you have fewer than 100 listings, it will show a dropdown list. Note: Only listings that have a featured image can be selected (since the cover requires an image).
  • Listing Link: (Pro only) Choose what happens when a user clicks the listing cover. Options include:
    • Same Window: Open the listing’s single page in the current window (standard behavior). Default.
    • New Window: Open the listing’s detail page in a new browser tab.
    • Open in Lightbox: Display the listing details in a popup lightbox overlay on the same page.
    • Right Panel / Left Panel / Bottom Panel: Slide in the listing details from the right side, left side, or bottom of the screen in a panel overlay.
    • Disabled: Make the cover non-clickable (no link at all).
  • Single Listing Style: (Pro only) If you chose a Lightbox or Panel option for Listing Link, this setting appears. It lets you select which single listing page style to use in the lightbox or panel view. You can choose Inherit From Global Options (to use the default single listing design set in Listdom settings) or a specific single listing layout (Style 1 – Basic, Style 2 – Sidebar, Style 3 – Slider Header, Style 4 – User Directory, or the Design Builder template if using a dynamic design). This ensures the listing details display in the overlay with your preferred style.

Cover Skin displays only one listing, so Sort options do not apply. There is no sortable list of multiple listings in this view. The Sort tab will be hidden or not applicable when using Cover Skin.

Because the Cover Skin is designed to show a specific single listing (rather than a list of many), it does not include a search bar or search module. The Search tab settings are not used for Cover Skin shortcodes.

Filter Options (filters by category, location, tag, etc.) are not applicable to the Cover Skin. Since you explicitly choose one listing to display, you cannot filter dynamically by taxonomy or field for this skin. The Cover shortcode will ignore any filter criteria – it will always show the one selected listing.

Featured Listing Spotlight

A real estate website wants to highlight one special property on the homepage. The site admin creates a Cover Skin shortcode and selects the premium listing “Luxury Beachfront Villa”. With Style 1 chosen, the villa’s featured image spans the top of the page with its title and a “Read More” button. This single listing cover draws immediate attention to the featured property.

Multiple Covers on One Page

A directory site showcases top listings from different categories each in their own cover section. For example, the admin creates three Cover Skin shortcodes – one for a top restaurant, one for a hotel, and one for an event – each using Style 3 for an overlay title and location. All three shortcodes are placed on the homepage, resulting in three distinct cover blocks (one for each chosen listing) stacked on the page. Visitors see highlights of each category at a glance.
