Use One Click Demo Import to quickly set up a fully designed site with Listdomer’s demo content, providing a professional and functional directory website right out of the box. This guide walks you through the process of importing demo content, understanding available demos, utilizing Toolkit plugins, and customizing your site post-import.
Available Demos
Section titled “Available Demos”The Listdomer theme offers three professionally designed, ready-to-import demos that cover the most common directory scenarios.
Each demo is built with a powerful combination of:
- Listdom Plugin: Delivers directory functionality such as listing management, search forms, and category organization.
- Listdomer Theme: Provides a customizable, visually cohesive design that complements Listdom features.
- Toolkit Plugin: Bundles the required Listdom addons (either the Business Directory Toolkit or Real Estate Toolkit) into a single, lightweight plugin so you do not need to install addons individually.
This stack ensures your site is fully functional immediately after import, eliminating manual configuration.
Toolkit Plugins
Section titled “Toolkit Plugins”Toolkit plugins are comprehensive bundles that include every Listdom addon required for a specific demo.
The benefits of Toolkit plugins include:
- Simplified setup: Skip activating individual addons; the Toolkit provides everything the demo needs.
- Lightweight performance: A single plugin keeps your site fast and easy to maintain.
- Seamless integration: Demo features work immediately after import for a frictionless experience.
If you already have a Listdom plan that includes all addons (such as the monthly plan or legacy All-Pass plans), you can activate the required addons individually instead of using the Toolkit. The demo behaves the same way because the Toolkit is simply a convenient bundle of those addons.
Trial Period and Purchase Options
Section titled “Trial Period and Purchase Options”Importing a demo that depends on a Toolkit automatically enables a 14-day free trial, giving you full access to the demo’s features with no upfront cost. After the trial you can:
- Purchase the Toolkit plugin to continue using its features on your site.
- Upgrade to a Listdom All-Pass plan (yearly or lifetime) that includes every addon and Toolkit for multiple sites.
Importing the Demo Content
Section titled “Importing the Demo Content”Follow these steps to import your preferred demo and launch your site with a complete directory setup.
- Open the Demo Importer: In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Listdomer > Demo Import. The importer displays each available demo with a preview image and description.
- Choose a demo: Select the design that fits your needs.
- General Directory: Flexible homepage with search, recent listings, and category sections.
- Real Estate Directory: Property-focused layout featuring Rent/Buy search tabs and real estate modules.
- Business Directory: Streamlined business listings with a clean structure for local services.
- Import the demo: Click Import and confirm. The importer automatically installs:
- Pages & Posts: Sample pages (Home, About, Contact) and dummy listings.
- Images & Media: Placeholder visuals to preserve layout consistency.
- Theme Options: Preconfigured Listdomer customizer and Redux settings.
- Listdom Settings: Search forms, categories, and other Listdom configurations.
- Widgets & Menus: Prebuilt widget placements and menu assignments (Primary, Footer, etc.). Progress updates display for each content type, and a success message appears when the process completes. Duration depends on server performance and network speed.
Post-Import Steps
Section titled “Post-Import Steps”After the importer finishes, complete these tasks to fine-tune your new site.
- Check Home & Blog pages: Confirm Settings > Reading sets “Home” as the static front page and assigns “Blog” or “News” for posts. This is the default for the General Directory and Business Directory demos.
- Review menu assignments: Visit Appearance > Menus > Manage Locations to ensure the Primary navigation and Footer menus point to the correct menu objects (e.g., “Top Menu” and “Footer”).
- Refresh permalinks: Navigate to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes to flush rewrite rules for custom post types such as Listings.
- Add API keys and integrations: Enter your Google Maps, Mailchimp, or other required keys either in Listdom settings or the relevant plugin settings, as demo credentials are not included.
- Replace demo content: Edit imported pages with Elementor or the Block Editor to update hero sections, text, images, and Listdom shortcodes. Replace the logo under Listdomer Settings > General and update contact information or social links in footer widgets.
- Explore Toolkit features: Use the 14-day Toolkit trial to test bundled addons. Decide whether to purchase the Toolkit, activate individual addons included in your plan, or upgrade to a yearly/lifetime All-Pass plan for ongoing access.
Toolkits are ideal when you want an all-in-one setup with minimal configuration. If you prefer granular control, activate individual addons instead, as long as your plan covers them.
Troubleshooting Import Issues
Section titled “Troubleshooting Import Issues”- Import fails or freezes: Increase PHP memory (at least 256M) and execution time (120 seconds or more), then rerun the importer. Previously imported items are skipped to avoid duplication.
- Missing images: External host limits can block image imports. Upload replacement images manually or substitute your own media.
- Menus or widgets not showing: Reassign them under Appearance > Menus or Appearance > Widgets using the import log or demo screenshots as references (e.g., the Contact Info widget in the footer).
- Existing content conflicts: Importing on a live site can clutter posts, pages, and categories. Perform the import on a staging environment or reset your site if you need a fresh start. If you only require settings, import on staging and copy the configurations.
